Creating functional objects is a meditative way for me to translate my thoughts and emotions and connect them into the hands of the holder. As one holds my pieces in their hands or against their lips it creates an internal balance, just as making them did for me.
When filled, each cup is meant to contain the universe within its lip.
Hand-washing is the safest method to preserving the safety and cleanliness of your pieces however they are safe to load in the dishwasher (just ensure nothing else is too close to them when loading)
WARNING: Do not pour boiling hot liquids into functional ware! Let cool briefly before pouring to avoid risk of crack developing.
Wheel Thrown, Wood Fired Porcelain with Celadon Glaze (2026)
Used for watercolor and calligraphy. Fill by submerging the vessel in a bowl of water and remove when bubbles cease to rise to the surface. Remove the dropper and carefully dry excess water from the exterior.
Cover the hole on the top with your fingertip and slowly tilt the spout down to allow a single drop of water onto your medium. Release finger from hole to allow continuous flow of water out of the dropper.
Alluvium: clay, silt, sand, gravel, or similar detrital material deposited by running water - Merriam Webster Dictionary
Focusing on these sifted rivulets of silt and sand shifting beneath the lively tranquility of the water’s flowing veil; giving them solid body and form to inhabit.
Mugs: Sitting beside the creek or atop a hill and lacking my usual tools and curated studio, I was forced to adapt and make due. Using stones and other foraged “tools” in the landscape around me, I began to Pinch these mugs. Inspired by the beauty in the spontaneous forms and horizons that make up the Catskill Mountain Range and the feelings of joy and interconnectivity when traversing the outdoors. I now hold onto these ideas and virtues back in my studio as I continue to create.
